A workshop on 3-point studio lighting was conducted for the students

On April 2, we accompanied BHS Media teacher Jo Lloyd to Millis HS for an all-day series of workshops and award presentations sponsored by the Mass Chapter of the American Association of Television Arts and Sciences. Our BHS students received 4 awards for their original programs.

Dyan DeNapoli, the “Penguin Lady”, was a guest on Walt Kosmowski’s “North Shore Journal” show. She recounted the fascinating story of the rescue of 40,000 penguins after an oil spill off South Africa, detailed in her book “The Great Penguin Rescue.”

On April 14, BevCam taped a talk by author Steven Puleo on his new book “The Caning”, relating a seminal event leading to the Civil War. It was part of the Beverly Library’s Monday Mornings lecture series.

After a winter hiatus, Phil Karwowski taped his first “Northern Lights” show in April. This time it was Beverly’s own Hospital Point light. His summer schedule includes visits to lighthouses from Maine to Cape Cod.

On April 23, Mayor Mike Cahill joined us in the BevCam studio to give Beverly residents a report on his first 100 days in office. The Mayor intends to provide these updates to our viewers on a regular basis

BevCam hosted another scout visit on April 18. The young producers-to-be had fun seeing themselves in front of interesting green screen effects.

New producer Amy Seabrook taped her first show featuring an elaborate puppet theater set up. A group of youngsters interacted with the puppets during the live presentation. Amy intends this to be a regular series.

lahey-healthNew producer Lahey Health taped their first show in a series they intend to produce featuring senior health topics. Host Jennifer Wenger will interview experts on issues affecting our elder population.

The camera frames up a North Shore Star singing contestant

On April 25, BevCam staff and volunteers were on hand to tape the Beverly Rotary Club’s annual North Show Star event at the Danversport Yacht Club. Talented singers from around the region performed popular numbers before a very appreciative audience.

On April 8, BevCam staff journeyed to the Salem Access facility to participate in a North Shore Access workshop. These meetings are held once a quarter at different access centers on a rotating basis. It gives us a chance to visit with our peers, get technical equipment updates and discuss relevant issues.

ED Walt Kosmowski had a chance to do outreach with potential producers and guests at the annual Essex National Heritage Area’s grant awards event at Gordon College.
