On June 14, BevCam taped the events on Cabot Street as another Beverly Arts Fest unfolded under a picture perfect blue sky. Entertainers, dancers, and all manner of vendors added to the festive atmosphere.

On June 18th, BevCam accompanied BHS teacher Joanna Lloyd and several of her media students to the Boston Globe for an awards program sponsored by the NE Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Emily Auday won 1st place in the music video category, and Daniel Lee won 1st in short-form non-fiction.

On June 19th, the Beverly Rotary Club presented its annual Teacher of the Year Award to Barbara Giroux, a kindergarten teacher at Hannah School. BevCam taped the event held in the BHS library.

As they have been doing for the past few years, a group of students from the Proctor School visited our studio for their yearly “Work a Day” project. Our staff showed them the basics of TV production and they got to operate the equipment.

“New England Lights” producer Phil Karwowski visited the historic lightship “Nantucket”, which saw duty as a floating lighthouse off Nantucket Shoals for 39 years. It is now a floating museum based at the Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marina in East Boston.

BHS media students taped the annual Mock Car crash at the front of the High school, conducted by the School in conjunction with the Beverly Police and Fire Departments.

At the request of the City, BevCam taped 2 open public meetings in June. A session was held on the 24th at the BCOA to discuss street improvements. And another was held on June 26th at City Hall regarding waterfront development.

“North Shore Journal” went on the road to downtown Beverly for the opening of the Farmers Market. This marks the 6th year for this activity, open Mondays from June through September.

On a beautiful June 1st Sunday afternoon at Hurd Stadium, BevCam taped the graduation ceremonies of the Class of 2014. During his remarks, Principal Sean Gallagher paid tribute to the expanding relationship of BHS with BevCam.

It was a meeting across the generations as BHS media student and producer Mary Burke interviewed long time “Livin the Good Life” host Bob Hobbs. The idea was to examine how adults viewed their realization of youthful expectations.

BevCam continues to support the efforts of the High School media department with classes on TV production, editing assistance and tutorials. Many students make use of our facilities during after school hours.

As of the end of the month we have 256 members. New members include: individual member Lydia Richards, who intends to produce a documentary on PermaCulture gardening; also Rachel Thomas, a recent BHS graduate who will continue taping her show “Diabetic Girl’s Studio Sessions”. Bobby Gates, former Beverly Citizen reporter, is a new member who wants to produce a news magazine type series. Tracy Valletti and Frank Silvia renewed Essex Rehabilitation’s membership and plan to re-start the production of “Senior Solutions”.

ED Walt Kosmowski was busy during the month with many outreach activities, including Rotary, Beverly Main Streets and Beverly Greater Chamber of Commerce events.
